Aproach

Strategy + Implementation

Twenty20 are consultants that create. We strategise, then we solve. This breaks the mould of the traditional model. We don't offer business, brand and marketing advice in isolation - We offer advice we know can be implemented, then put in a place.

Marketing + Management

Our outsourcing capability means that if you have limited marketing department resources we can manage your day-to-day needs. If you have a marketing function already, we can work with you and your team to build great strategy and effective creative.

"A partnership approact is talked about often in the normal client/supplier relationship, but the outsourcing model takes that to a new level of trust and confidence."
- Paul McMahon, Simonds Homes General Manager.

What to say + How to say it

Through detailed analysis we actively uncover ways to engage your customer. So when you go to market you know exactly "What to say" and "How to say it".

People + Process

Ground-breaking strategy is nothing without your company's people knowin ghtie role within it. After all the are the face of your message. Twenty20 work with management, sales and other departments to ensure your messages in the media is consistent with your message on the ground.

People

  •  Rod Curtis
    Partner, Strategy & Planning Director

"Strategy provides focus," says Rod, "because great creativity without a business outcome is wasted." This belief permeates all of Rod's business practices. He expertly integrates business and marketing objectives to create dynamic strategies for Twenty20's clients, ensuring their growth opportunities are fulfilled and goals met. He understands that the key to good strategy is continuously driving change – creating a trend, not following one. Having a strategy is useless, however, unless you can pull people together to realise it. Fortunately, Rod is an adroit leader whose career spans more than 35 years. He has the skills, knowledge and insight to deliver successful projects and add value to each client's business. Rod developed his early agency experience with Masius, JWT and Clemenger BBDO before becoming founding partner of his own agency, Leonardi & Curtis. L&C became a creative powerhouse in Australian advertising, winning B&T agency of the year and Facts commercial of the year twice. Rod eventually sold the business, taking on the roles of Managing Director at Young & Rubicam and Chairman of the Advertising Federation of Australia, before establishing Twenty20 in 2001. He specialises in brand development and has built and launched some of Australia's biggest brands, including the Victorian RSPCA and IKEA, and recently Twenty20 clients Momentum, Thirsty Camel and Simonds. Outside of work, Rod is a passionate Richmond supporter (having attempted to play a few VFL games for the Richmond Footy Club in his youth) and an enthusiast of history and politics. He was a commentator at election times on Jon Faines ABC radio program for a number of years, but now reserves his political marketing opinions for his suffering colleagues.
  •  Fysh Rutherford
    Group Creative Director & Partner

"Quality control" is how Fysh describes his role at Twenty20. His is a critical job, ensuring that all work leaving the agency is of the highest standard. After all, as Fysh says, "you're only ever as good as your last idea."

Fysh is a great believer in the bright idea as a tool to combine benefit for the business with value for the customer. Never one to rest on his laurels, Fysh consistently works to find new meaning and inspiration for his clever concepts.

He's used his knack for creativity to lead some of Australia's most influential agencies and establish some of the country's biggest brands, both here and in Asia. He has created campaigns for Thirsty Camel, Skil, Medibank and Ansett, amongst many others, and has held senior creative positions with George Patterson's, Leo Burnett, JWT and ClemengerBBDO.

Fysh has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to the industry with numerous awards and accolades, including honorary life membership by the MADC. He started his career as creator and writer of the satirical comic strip Iron Outlaw, has co-authored Symbols of Australia, the definitive textbook on Australian brands and trademarks, and is currently working on a children's book. He has also previously lectured at RMIT in the Master of Marketing degree.

Not content with sitting still, Fysh has recently sold his Lotus Super 7 race car to take up the mellower past-time of painting. He's already sold his first work and contends, quite simply, "You always have to do stuff, make stuff. There's no time for idleness if you want to stand out."
  •  Phil Beale
    Studio Manager

A studio manager with 36 years experience in the UK and Australian advertising industry, Phil brings a wealth of knowledge to Twenty20. He was a finished artist and typographer early in his career, training at the famous Carlton Studios in the United Kingdom. Phil takes pride in his team's role in the creative process and their trade heritages as typesetters, photo-retouchers and finished artists.

During his lengthy international career, Phil has worked with numerous blue chip clients including Heinz, Metlink, Fosters, the Victorian Government and Queensland Travel and Tourism. He's seen many creative ideas fail and many more succeed, but Phil knows good talent when he sees it. A semi-pro guitarist for more than 30 years, Phil once 'roadied' for Dire Straits and proclaimed, "these blokes'll never make it!"
  •  Matt Ellis
    Senior Writer

Matt has taken the career path less traveled on the road to senior copywriter at Twenty20. A practicing artist for more than ten years - studying at Swinburne and the Victoria College of the Arts - Matt produced several exhibitions and has sold his work to various public and private collections. Having started a Master's program in fine art, he discovered the joys of advertising and graduated, again, with a double BA in marketing and communication at RMIT.

During his five years at Twenty20, Matt has won a handful of MADC and Siren awards, helping lead Thirsty Camel's rebranding campaign and various other projects for Salmat, Simonds and Liquor Alliance. While Matt's fine arts background gives him a different perspective on brand strategy, he believes the finished products are the same in both industries. "You wrestle with ideas in your head, but what you finally reveal to the public needs to mean something to them."
  •  Nick Vargheese
    Digital Media Developer

Nick is Twenty20's digital media developer, a role that requires a range of digital expertise and encompasses multiple client and project responsibilities. Nick produces motion graphics, creates and sends HTML emails, edits videos, maintains and updates websites and creates new websites for companies that require a new branding and marketing strategy.

With a strong design and programming background and proficiency in a range of software, he is always adapting and keeping up to date with the latest digital technologies. Nick has been a freelancer for more than five years, and having worked both in-house and off-site, enjoys Twenty20 for its interesting variety of clients and projects.

Honshi is well versed in many programming languages, and is eager to learn and adapt as new technologies arise. He has been specialising in online systems for over 6 years, including roles at agencies in Singapore and Malaysia.
  •  Andrew Panozzo
    Senior Art Director

As the senior art director for some of Twenty20's largest clients, Andrew has built a reputation for taking creative jobs and exceeding his clients' expectations. Andrew's "individualistic streak" pushes him to break previous personal benchmarks, and even at the layout stage, works to design polished material that give better indications of what the finished product will look like.

With more than ten years of large agency experience, Andrew has worked with Australia's largest companies and organisations, including NAB, Telstra, Myer and the AFL. He is a new technology junkie, owning multiple computers, iPods and an iPhone that rarely leaves his right or left hand.
  •  Angus Williams
    Senior Writer

The Creative Conceptualiser. The Wordsmith. The Ideas Guy. But Angus is more than just Twenty20's imaginative senior writer; he is a key client contact who understands customers on their own terms, uncovering communication difficulties and developing marketing solutions to complex problems. Angus works throughout the communications process to ensure the correct problem is being solved, working with photographers, film production and web developers to drive an outcome for a client.

Notable previous clients include Coca Cola, Cadbury, Cricket Australia and a range of tourism, real estate and sporting companies. Angus' work for Hewlett-Packard resulted in a top ten placement in a worldwide commercial competition, and he once worked on a claymation project for Cadbury that took four months to complete. "It was like watching paint dry, but the finished product was amazing."
